Greetings
Well we have come from Christmas and the New Year and I trust both were safe and enjoyable. We have had an opportunity for our Patrol Leader Council to meet to flush out the balance of our scouting year. Please take a moment to look at the Schedule to see what we will be doing through the winter and into the spring/summer.
Exciting Winter/Spring Calendar of Events
The Patrol Leaders Council (SPL, ASPL, Patrol Leaders and Asst. Patrol Leaders) have had their PLC meeting and have come up with an exciting winter/spring calendar for their troop to enjoy. We will be doing a day visit to Bristol Mtn. for those that enjoy skiing, snowboarding or just getting away for a few hours. We have reserved "The Fort" at Camp Cutler for our traditional Webelos Campout Weekend. This has always been a hit for the boys in the troop as well as those Webelo scouts that choose to join us for great outdoor winter fun like sledding and other snow related activities. We always eat to much and sleep to warmly but it is a blast. The PLC also has us going to PA this year for our annual white water rafting trip. The Venture scouts may decide to head back to the Adirondacks this same weekend to take on the more challenging white water afforeded by the rivers there. There will also be campouts to Hi Torr and other neat places to allow the scouts to work on their skills and enjoy our beautiful area. I am very excited about this calendar and I hope the troop members will enjoy it as much as I think they will.
Leader Training
Just a note to let everyone know that Mr. Kunkel and Mrs. Schrieber have both completed Parts 1,2 and 3 of the Scoutmaster Fundamentals courses. They will complete their Outdoor Skills Training course in April at Camp Sam Wood. Cheers to both of them for taking the next steps on their Adult Leadership Trail.
Summer Camp
The committee has decided that the troop will be attending a different summer camp this year. We will be going to Camp Gorton in the southern tier of NY state during the week of July 24th. Mr. Kunkel has once again agreed to be our summer camp coordinator and he will be informing the troop parents as to the fees and graduated payment plan set out to reduce the "shock" of summer camp costs. Please visit the camp at http://www.geocities.com/campgorton/ and the specifics regarding leader documentation at http://www.fiverivers.org/ .
Scout Uniforms
Please remember that Troop 86 Class A uniforms are to be worn to every formal meeting and during travel to and from events. The Class A uniform consists of: Scout Shirt with apprporiate badges of rank, office, etc., Troop 86 Neckerchief, a slide and green pants (shorts). We do not insist that you purchase Boy Scout Pants (Shorts) but do insist that the pants be green, preferably a darker shade similar to scout pants. Any Scout that needs uniform parts will be given an opportunity to buy them from the Troop. There is no reason to not have these. Please see Mr. Mattison or Mr. Meritt to purchase needed items.
