Adult leader training Introduction to Outdoor
Leader Skills required for trained Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters; recommended
for Troop Committee. Teaches the camping and outdoor skills that leaders needs to impart
to scouts. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orienteering (BALOO)
is a one-day course (Sat, Nov 14) for Cub Scout leaders who will be responsible for scouts on
outdoor outings. In order to go on an outdoor outing, a Cub Scout group must have at least one leader
who has completed either of these courses.

Sports Weekend/MaizeQuest After Dark Outing (Fri-Sun, Oct 09-11):
We will camp at the site and do the corn maze by flashlight at night.
Over 20 attractions in the fun park, including an 80-foot tube slide! This year’s corn maze theme
is the wild, wild west. It is cut in the shape of a giant, bronco-riding cowboy. But bring a
flashlight because we’ll be doing it after dark! Should be a great, fun weekend!

FUND RAISER (Sat, Oct 3, 3-hour shifts from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM):
We have 2 major fundraisers (Apple Festival in Oct and Spaghetti Dinner in March)
where we ask scouts (and adults, if possible) to work a few hours in a common cause. We'll be
baking/selling the usual funnel cakes, fries, hot dogs, baked goods, and drinks. All scouts are
expected to sign up for at least one work shift. Uniform is class C (scout t-shirt, pants/shorts,
sox, and black visor cap); class A uniform is only authorized at official scout fundraisers
(e.g., popcorn).
Attached is the Permission Slip and some additional information regarding the event. Please complete and return your permission slip as soon as possible, indicating your first and second choices. We need a minimum of 10-12 Scouts and adults per shift. Please be advised that some shifts fill up quicker than others, so the sooner you get your permission slip in, the more likely you are to get your first choice. Horsemanship/Indian Lore Merit Badge Weekend (Sat-Sun, May 23-24):
This is a fun weekend, at a beautiful horse ranch. This outing is open to
everyone. Please check your calendars and RSVP ASAP. Scouts will
camp and eat as a patrol. We will meet at Level Fire Hall Saturday morning, at 8:00AM. We have a trail
ride scheduled at 12:00PM and again at 2:00PM. There is a 250 pound weight limit to ride the horses.
Miss Christine Kertis needs to know who is going and which merit badge(s) you are working on so she
can coordinate. You
will need to bring a blue card (from Scoutmaster Collins) for each merit badge that you will be
working on as well as the badge worksheet from
http://www.MeritBadge.org. All riders (scouts & adults) must bring a release form signed by an
adult.
Ms. Christine Kertis needs a $20.00 deposit as soon as possible.
If anyone needs to emcee a campfire (Communications merit badge requirement)let her know.

Backpacking the Appalachian Trail in Maryland http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/at.html. Two hike options are offered to accommodate a range of skill and ability levels. o The 10-mile hike is designed to reinforce backpacking skills for those who have backpacked at least once before. Will leave Level VFC at 6:30 AM Saturday and hike from Gathland to Dahlgren, then on to Washington Monument State Park on Sunday morning. o The 15-mile hike is offered for scouts who have mastered their backpacking skills and for those scouts who are currently working on their backpacking merit badge. is a one-day course (Sat, Apr 18) for Cub Scout leaders who will be responsible for scouts on

Day Service Project (Fri, Apr 10, 8:15 AM-Noon):
Troop will participate in the Arbor Day 2009 project at Edgeley
Grove Park (Fallston) on Friday, April 10. Harford County will have a ceremony at
9:00 AM. The planting project will consist of planting 900 tree seedlings on 3.7 acres
and the planting of 112 balled and burlapped trees along the Ma and Pa Trail.
Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at the park by 9am. Civic organizations, school
groups, scouts and individuals are invited. Please bring a hammer and shovel if you
have them. Also bring work boots, gloves, and water.
