  • 28 Nentico Lodge Jingle Bell Beaver Day (Fri, Dec 28, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM): Service day. Camp Staff, Scouts, Scouters, Ventures, Webelos. Rain, snow, hail or shine. All the excitement of sprucing up Broad Creek begins at Reservation Headquarters at 8:30AM. We'll have donuts, coffee, and juice to begin the day with. When you arrive, we'll get you signed in, and assigned to a work crew. Then, it's off to "get 'er done"! At 12:00 noon, we'll have gallons of home made soups, and more pizza than you've ever seen! We wrap up by 3:30PM.

    24 Family Christmas Service (Mon, Dec 24, 3:30-4:30 PM): Need scouts to park cars. Service is at 4:00 PM; arrive a little before 3:30 and finish a little after 4:30 PM; scouts receive a full service hour of credit toward their next rank. Report to Ken Collins in Class A uniform with outerwear appropriate for the weather. Weather-dependent.

    20 How to Start an Eagle Project (Thurs, Dec 20, 7:00PM-8:30PM): Special meeting for older Scouts (i.e., Life Scouts or soon-to-be Life Scouts) on how to get started on their Eagle project. Proceeds to our upcoming High Adventure trips.

    19-21 Troop Backpacking Weekend (Fri-Sun, Oct 19-21): Backpacking the Appalachian Trail in Northern Virginia/West Virginia
    The backpacking trip is intended to be an activity for the entire troop.
    Three hike options are being offered in an effort to meet a range of skill and ability levels.
       o The novice 5-mile hike is an introduction to backpacking for our first time backpackers. Pending. Dependent on scout interest and adult support.
       o The 10-mile hike is designed to reinforce backpacking skills for those who have backpacked at least once before. Will leave Level VFC at 6:00 AM Saturday morning and hike to Bears Den. 10-mile permission slip, packing list, and info..
       o The 15-mile hike is offered for scouts who have mastered their backpacking skills and for those scouts who are currently working on their backpacking merit badge. Will leave Level VFC at 3:00 PM Friday afternoon, camp overnight, and hike all day Saturday to Bears Den.

    12-14 Baltimore Area Council Camporall (Fri-Sun, Oct 12-14): This is going to be a huge event with all three of Broad Creek's camps open for camping and program!
      o Camp Oest is available for Cub Packs and will be offering Central Dining as an option for campers there.
      o Camp Spencer will also be offering Central Dining, a special camping area for Venturing Crews, and a reunion for those Scouts that participated in the Lost Pines program this summer.
      o Camp Saffran will be the base of operations hosting the BIG BIG show on Saturday evening. The show includes a live band and fireworks!

    06 DARLINGTON APPLE FESTIVAL FUND RAISER (Sat, Oct 6, 3-hour shifts from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM): We do not ask our scouts to sell popcorn or other items door-to-door for a couple months. Instead, we have 2 major fundraisers (Apple Festival in Oct and Spaghetti Dinner in March) where we ask scouts (and adults, if possible) to work a few hours in a common cause. We'll be baking/selling the usual funnel cakes, fries, hot dogs, baked goods, and drinks. All scouts are expected to sign up for at least one work shift.     Harford District will be sharing a booth with the Harford County Sheriff. Service hours available in 2-hour shifts. We will be providing identification kits for families. We will do fingerprinting for kids attending under the direction of the Sheriff&146s deputies. This will also be a membership drive for us. So come on out and help for 2 hours on Saturday or Sunday.     This may be of double interest to you Scouts. You can participate in the Field Sports Challenge on Sat or contact Stephanie Schwartz to help man stations in the Webelos Challenge on Saturday. This is a Field Sports weekend to allow Scouts to come out and participate in Field Sports events, Rifle/Shotgun shooting, Archery, Waterfront Activities and an Ironman Competition, etc. There is also a variety of merit badges boys can work on.

    19 Troop Swim Party (Sun, Aug 19, Noon-4:00 PM): Anyone can get onto APG; you just need a vehicle registration and picture ID (such as driver&146s license, or school ID for kids), and need to enter via the south or Route 715 gate, near Walmart. The time is 12:00 until 4:00 PM.
    The troop will provide fried chicken, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and bug juice. We ask each family to bring a side dish or dessert of your choice or specialty to share, and a drink if you want something other than bug juice.
    Directions from the Rt 715 gate to the Shore Pool: Go straight on Maryland Blvd after passing the gate. Turn right on Aberdeen Blvd (Commissary is on your right, and the Ordnance Museum is across Aberdeen Blvd to the left). Turn left on Swan Creek Drive (a block past the post office). The Shore Pool is 1 block on the right.

    01 Troop Canoe Basic Training (Wed, Aug 01, 10:00AM-3:00PM):
    Outing to teach canoe handling and safety. For Trailblazers (new scouts) and any other scout needing this training. Bring a bag lunch. Scouts should bring a bag lunch, water, towel, personal flotation device (PFD) if they have one. Also personal paddle if the scout has one. Wear bathing suit, T-shirt, water shoes or sneakers. We will provide transportation for any Trailblazer/scout that needs a ride to and from the event if necessary (just let us know if a ride is a problem).     Directions: From Level, take 161 (Darlington Road) north through Darlington and across Route 1, where it becomes 623 (Castleton Road). Past the village of Castleton, 623 becomes Flintville Road. Continue on 623 (Flintville Road) approximately 3 more miles. Broad Creek Landing will be on your right. Be careful, it is at the bottom of the hill just prior to the bridge over Broad Creek and is easy to miss. Parking is limited at the site itself but there is a parking lot across the street at the intersection of Flintville and Paddrick Rds.

    04 Independence Day Fundraiser (Wed, Jul 04): The Bel Air Parade normally ends at the high school, where they have fireworks, and we staff a booth. This year, due to construction at Bel Air high school, fireworks will be at Rockfield Park (no vendors or spectators allowed). Our booth will be in the parking lot of the district court house (Mary Risteau building) off Bond street. We have 5 shifts (from 7:00 AM to Midnight-closing) and we need 8-10 scouts or adults per shift. Please indicate a first and second shift choice on the permission slip – every effort will be made to honor your choices, but it&146s first-come, first served. And, you can volunteer for more than one shift - the more hours worked, the larger the percentage!! Profits go into scout accounts.     Uniform: Class A, to including scout shorts, troop hat, and troop neckerchief, and scout socks

    Additional instructions: Meet in Havre de Grace on Stokes Street between Franklin and Green Streets (there will be a white sign saying position #15, Boy Scout Troop 965). Parade starts at 2:00 PM. Parents, drop your scouts off at this meeting location at 1:00 PM, and pick your scouts up the parade end on Commerce Street at Tydings Park around 3:30 PM. We cannot transport scouts back to the starting location. The end time is an estimate - watch the parade and guess when we will reach the end. Parents, be prepared to walk your scout to the meeting location and from the end location, as it will not be possible to drive close to either. Scouts, bring a water cup that can be collapsed and put in your pocket or attached to your belt (the Troop will provide large jugs of ice water). Permission slip

    06 Harford County Arbor Day Celebration and Conservation Project (Fri, Apr 06, 8:30 AM-12:00 Noon): The Fifth Annual Harford County Arbor Day Celebration and Conservation Project will consist of planting 400 pine seedlings and building 400 seedling shelters to help reforest the pine stands that were destroyed by insects. The project will be at Harford Glen Environmental Education Center at the west end of Wheel Road in Bel Air. The Center is closed to the public until the following day (April 7). Permission slip
