| 27-02 | New River High Adventure Outing
(Sun-Sat, Jul 27-Aug 02): Class V White water rafting (1 day), white water canoeing (1 day),
COPE courses (2 days), optional day for climbing & rappelling, mountain biking, hiking, or caving.
Scout must be able to pass swim test and have been at least age 13 as of Jan 1, 2008. Class III physical required. Cost is $300 per
scout or adult. Non-refundable deposit of $50 was due by Jan 24.

| 09 | Troop Canoe Basic Training (Sat, Aug 09, 10:00AM-3:00PM): Outing to teach canoe handling and safety. For Trailblazers (new scouts) and any other scout needing this training. Must be red-white-and-blue swimmer (have passed BSA swim test at summer camp, etc). Wear bathing suit and shirt. Wear pool shoes, sandals or tennis shoes. Bring towel, sunblock, water and bag lunch. Scouts will be getting in the water. Scouts can bring there own personal flotation device (PFD) or personal canoe paddles. Troop will supply PFD or paddle for anyone that needs one. Leaders in charge: John Dowdy and Rob Cook Permission slip Directions: From Level, take 161 (Darlington Road) north through Darlington and across Route 1, where it becomes 623 (Castleton Road). Past the village of Castleton, 623 becomes Flintville Road. Continue on 623 (Flintville Road) approximately 3 more miles. Broad Creek Landing will be on your right. Be careful, it is at the bottom of the hill just prior to the bridge over Broad Creek and is easy to miss. | 15-22 | Sea Base High Adventure
Camp (Fri-Fri, Aug 15-22):
This trip is for older scouts. Sea Base is one of three BSA High Adventure challenges for scouts (the others being Philmont Ranch and Northern Tier). The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base operates nine different adventures out of three different locations: two in the Florida Keys, and one in Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. The time is 12:00 until 4:00 PM. The troop will provide fried chicken, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and
bug juice. We ask each family to bring a side dish or dessert of your choice or specialty to share, and
a drink if you want something other than bug juice.

| 04 | DARLINGTON APPLE FESTIVAL
FUND RAISER (Sat, Oct 4, 3-hour shifts from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM):
We do not ask our scouts to sell popcorn or other items door-to-door for a couple
months. Instead, we have 2 major fundraisers (Apple Festival in Oct and Spaghetti Dinner in March)
where we ask scouts (and adults, if possible) to work a few hours in a common cause. We'll be
baking/selling the usual funnel cakes, fries, hot dogs, baked goods, and drinks. All scouts are
expected to sign up for at least one work shift. Uniform is class A (scout shirt, pants, scarf, and cap).

Backpacking the Appalachian Trail in Maryland

Three hike options are offered to accommodate a range of skill and ability levels. o The 5-mile hike is an introduction to backpacking for our first time backpackers. Will leave Level VFC at 6:30 AM Saturday and hike to Annapolis Rock. o The 10-mile hike is designed to reinforce backpacking skills for those who have backpacked at least once before. Will leave Level VFC at 6:30 AM Saturday and hike to Annapolis Rock. o The 15-mile hike is offered for scouts who have mastered their backpacking skills and for those scouts who are currently working on their backpacking merit badge. Will leave Level VFC at 3:00 PM Friday, camp in a backcountry setting then hike Saturday to Annapolis Rock. or shine. All the excitement of sprucing up Broad Creek begins at Reservation Headquarters at 8:30AM.
We'll have donuts, coffee, and juice to begin the day with. When you arrive, we'll get you signed in,
and assigned to a work crew. Then, it's off to "get 'er done"! At 12:00 noon, we'll have gallons of
home made soups, and more pizza than you've ever seen! We wrap up by 3:30PM. If you have any questions, please call Dave Weissert at Camp at 410-879-4922.
