New Eagle
(11/15/2001), by M. Smith |
An Eagle Scout is a rare thing. Our troop has not had an active one since J. Yerkes turned 18.
That is going to change. D. Ebeling has passed his Board of Review for Eagle Scout. Although
some paperwork has to be completed by the Council and National Offices in order for the rank to
be official, Troop 676 will be seeing an Eagle Court of Honor soon. This will be the first Eagle
Court of Honor since J. Yerkes and M. Cooke had their Eagle Court of Honor 4 years ago.
Congratulations to D. Ebeling. |

Philmont
(11/9/2001), by M. Smith |
Philmont is, by all reports, a wonderful experience. Located in New Mexico, it offers a Boy Scout
Trek experience that is one of the most popular scout activities in the country. Last year, over 1
million phone calls placed to the reservation number during the 4 hour reservation window. Only 48
calls are answered at a time with another 48 being put on hold. Troops try for years to get a
reservation in this program and it is not allowed for one unit to go to Philmont in consecutive years
in order to give more units the chance at this unique experience.
Mr. McGinnis coordinated a call in campaign for our troop in an effort to get reservations for a
2003 trek at Philmont. Starting at 8 am, our volunteers placed several hundred calls until Mr.
Coulombe got through to the reservations center at 8:50.
The result of work is that Troop 676 is scheduled for a Philmont Trek with up to 24 scouts and 6
adults beginning on August 9, 2003. More information will be coming shortly. Thank you to the
volunteers who made the phone calls to make this possible. |

The dates Chuck Lord will be leading the group to Holcombe Valley (about 3 hours from San Diego / Old Baldy Council) are August 11-17, 2002.
